Y’all! It is Friday the 13th!!! With that, I am bringing you this adorable puffy stuffy black cat! I love Friday the 13th so much! Why? Well, I’m glad you asked! What do you think the reason might be?
Is it:

a) I just love love LOVE Halloween.
b) I love spooky, scary things.
c) Friday the 13th is my all-time favorite movie.
d) 13 is my favorite number.

If you guessed a, b, or c, then you have a lot to learn about me, my friend. hehe I loathe Halloween and all things scary. I stopped trying to watch scary movies, back in college, when I realized that they made me feel like I was about to die. I’m a big ole wuss. Buuuuut, I’ve always been a fan of the underdog, and never a big believer in luck or bad luck. The number 13 gets picked on, due to no fault of its own. People avoid it, say bad things about it, and bully it. Y’all should be ashamed of yourselves!

However, 13 holds an even more special place in my heart than just its underdog story. 13 was my mother’s high school basketball number, and I went on to wear it on my own jersey in high school and college. I love the number with all my heart, in all its uniqueness, and what is more unique and different than when it falls on a Friday! So here is another unfairly judged, mistreated rarity; the black cat. Soooo, a black cat just crossed your path on Friday the 13th. What are you going to do about it?

Well, make something cuddly, I hope!

Notes: The Puffy Stuffy Black Cat is worked in a round from the top, down, with no joining. Use a st marker to mark each rnd. The body, arms, and legs are made all in one piece. The ears and tail are made separately and sewn on. This yarn can be tricky to work with, so here are some tips: to be sure you’re not missing any sts, always count each rnd, until you’re more comfortable. Because the yarn is so thick, the sts will be very close together, especially during the increasing rnds. Do NOT pull yarn too tightly while sewing or closing, because it can break. Pull gently. This pattern is available for free on my blog here, but if you wish to download a PDF copy and avoid the ads, it can be found in my Ravelry shop for a small fee.

13. Then pull through all 5 loops to complete bobble.
Before continue on to close, place your safety eyes in the face. I placed mine about 4 sts apart, between rnds 7 and 8. Use your worsted weight pink yarn to stitch on the nose, making a triangle and then filling it in. Then use white for the whiskers.

14. Place eyes about 7 rnds down, with about 3 or 4 sts between them. Make sure they are centered between the arms. Then center the nose and whiskers just below.
Begin stuffing. Body will stretch as you stuff, so stuff a little more after each rnd here before closing.
Rnd 16: (invsc2tog, sc in next 3 sts)6x; 24 sts
Rnd 17: invsc2tog 6x; 12 sts
Rnd 18: invsc2tog 6x; 6 sts
Complete stuffing, if you can put anymore through the middle.
Fasten off and weave the end around the hole to close.

Ears, (make 2) in Coal
Begin with magic ring.
Rnd 1: 4 sc in magic ring; 4 sts
Rnd 2: sc in each st around; 4 sts
Rnd 3: (inc, sc in next st)2x; 6 sts
Rnd 4: (inc, sc in next 2 sts)2x; 8 sts
Rnd 5: (inc, sc in next 3 st)2x; 10 sts
Fold opening closed, and sc 4 sts across through both sides to close the ear. Fasten off, leaving long tail for sewing. Sew onto the head.
Tail, in Coal
Begin with magic ring.
Rnd 1: 6 sc in magic ring; 6 sts
Rnd 2: sc in each st around; 6 sts
Repeat rnd 2 until tail measures approximately 7.5 inches. Then sc 3 through the opening to close. Fasten off, leaving an extra long tail for sewing. Sew the end of the tail into the center bottom of the back, then sew it along the bottom and up the side. Don’t sew the tail onto the body all the way up, but leave the end to stick out a little. To get the tail to curl at the end, simply pull the yarn through to the tip, then weave the yarn back down the tail through a few stitches and pull. This will curl the tip of the tail down a bit. Fasten off and weave in your final ends.

15. Sew the tail to the center bottom of the back, pointing to one side, and then sew the tail down along the bottom, and up the side.

16. Don’t sew the tail to the body all the way up. Allow the tail to curl out a bit by pulling the yarn back down through to weave in and fasten off.
