I had so much fun with the Watermelon Nesting Bowls, that I absolutely had to do this again, so here are pineapple nesting bowls

I am a big fan of traditional toys. The stacking, nesting, building block type toys stimulate so much creativity! And I love putting a new spin on them! I believe so many of those simple stacking and sorting toys from my own childhood, are incredibly beneficial to brain development in our own little ones.

These pineapple nesting bowls are fun for a few reasons. Other than the obvious fun of stacking them, the different stitches and techniques provide different textures for little fingers. Also, due to the nature of this pattern, making a stuffed pineapple for the top wasn’t practical, as the stuffing would come through, so the top bowl is actually a bag with a drawstring to cinch closed around the leaves! I don’t know about yours, but my little ones have always loved bags!

Materials:
Worsted weight yarn in yellow, brown or tan, and green. I’m a big fan of using whatever you have on hand!
Used here: Caron One Pound – Sunflower, Vanna’s Choice – Honey, and Red Heart Super Saver – Tea Leaf
Crochet hook size F – 3.75mm
Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
Terms and abbreviations to know:
magic ring
ch, chs – chain, chains
st, sts – stitch, stitches
rnd, rnds – round, rounds
sk – skip
sl st – slip stitch
sc – single crochet
inc – increase, work 2 sc into 1 sts
hdc – half double crochet
dc – double crochet
BLO – back loop only
invsc2tog – invisible single crochet 2 together,
this is essentially a decrease, but done in such a way as to make the continuous stitching smoother and the decrease not as noticeable

  1. Insert hook into front loop only of next stitch, DO NOT yarn over.
  2. Insert hook into front loop of second stitch.
  3. Yarn over. Pull through 2 loops.
  4. Yarn over and pull through last 2 loops.
Notes: Bowls are worked from largest to smallest. To assure proper fit, occasionally insert the next size into the previous one, as the fits may vary, depending on yarn used. Bowls are worked in continuous rnds without joining for the bottoms. Whenever you do need to join after that, it is made clear in the pattern. When joining, chs never count toward the final st count. The first st is always worked in the same st as the joining st. Color changes are made by pulling the next color through to complete the previous st. This is pictured below.
This pattern is available for free on my blog here, but if you wish to download a printer-friendly copy and avoid the ads, it can be found in my Ravelry shop for a small fee.

  1. This is the cutest thing ever!! Thank you so much for sharing. I don’t even have any toddlers, I just want one for myself! Not sure how quickly I will get to it, but I will definitely be making one of these and will post to ravelry when I do.

    • Thank you so much!! I hope you enjoy the pattern. Can’t wait to see your finished work! 🙂
