By now, if you've been following along my Facebook page, or if you've read my about section, you know that I have a deep love for basketball. I made this basketball blanket for our basketball-loving son for his birthday in the fall, and he absolutely loves it, but getting the pattern just the way I wanted it, to present it to you, has been a longer process. In fact, this pattern took me from October to March to put together. Kind of fitting!
I absolutely had to have it ready for this month though, for a very specific reason. If you don't know what that reason might be, you're probably not interested in this pattern. :)
It is the most wonderful time of the year! Spring is coming, and college basketball has reached its most exciting, most anticipated, most magical part of the season; THEE tournament. March marks the nearing end of a miserable Buffalo winter (ok, maybe not all years are this way, but still, YAY sunshine!), and the beginning of someone's Cinderella story. Kids from all over the world are in this tournament, some for the very first time, hoping to win their way to the championship game. Stories surrounding these games are intense, competitive, and at times, heartwarming tearjerkers. It is a time to celebrate the youth of this nation, and the lessons they've learned in hard work and dedication.
Sure, it's just a game, but to these kids, playing in front of millions, it's a lifestyle, a dream, a once in a lifetime opportunity they will never forget.
So, I made a blanket. For those who look forward to this time of year, all year long; for those who are still suffering from northern chills, for those who want to wrap themselves up forever in a metaphorical, but ever comforting swish.
Am I a bit over the top? Maybe...but welcome to March Madness!
This pattern is designed to be a sleeping bag style blanket, and not meant for infants or very young children still sleeping in cribs. The sizes are small child, large child, and average adult, with easy additions for large adult, you know, like those 6'10" slam dunkers!
